Cherry Tree Lane, Clarendon — The relations of 22-year-old Jamar Farquharson, who was shot and killed throughout a police operation on Monday, are gearing as much as stage a protest in Might Pen, denouncing what they describe as an extrajudicial killing.

Police reported that Farquharson was fatally shot after allegedly pulling a firearm on lawmen who have been executing a search warrant at a home alongside Cherry Tree Lane. In response to the police, a gun was recovered from the younger man following the confrontation.

Nevertheless, Farquharson’s household has flatly rejected that account. They insist the slain man was unarmed and cooperative when officers arrived. To help their claims, they circulated a brief video on-line which they are saying exhibits the second Jamar opened the door to police.

The footage — now broadly shared on social media — depicts a person hurrying to open a door, elevating each palms above his head earlier than stepping exterior and briefly out of view. Seconds later, officers will be seen transferring him apart as two policemen enter the dwelling. The video ends earlier than any additional encounter is proven.

“This was an unjust killing,” a household spokesperson instructed reporters. “Jamar didn’t have a gun. He surrendered, they usually nonetheless shot him.”

Group members in Cherry Tree Lane say they’re standing with the bereaved household. Plans are reportedly underway for a peaceable protest in Might Pen later this week, demanding a clear probe into the incident.

The Unbiased Fee of Investigations (INDECOM) has since launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Farquharson’s dying, whereas police preserve that their officers acted in self-defense.

The deadly taking pictures has stirred tensions within the parish, with residents urging calm as investigations proceed
