Basic Secretary of the Opposition Folks’s Nationwide Occasion (PNP), Dr Dayton Campbell, has mentioned there might be “actions throughout Jamaica” if the Authorities doesn’t rescind the appointment of Dennis Chung as Chief Technical Director of the Monetary Investigations Division (FID) inside 72 hours from Thursday.

“We’re giving this Authorities 72 hours to rescind this appointment, and if they don’t rescind it, there might be actions throughout Jamaica,” declared Campbell at a PNP press convention on the occasion’s Previous Hope Highway headquarters in St Andrew on Thursday.

When requested by a reporter if he meant that there might be “pandemonium” in Jamaica, or “demonstrations” led by the political occasion if Chung doesn’t step down, Campbell responded: “I do not need that phrase in my vocabulary; I mentioned no such factor“.

Added Campbell: “The purpose I’m making… is that we’re taking again our nation from the clutches of despair.”

Campbell asserted that the PNP is not going to stand idly by whereas the Authorities makes “extremely inappropriate” appointments.

“If they don’t act, we’re going to behave, and the individuals of this nation – time has come for them to behave,” he indicated.

In the meantime, Opposition Chief Mark Golding declined to elaborate on the deliberate actions, however hinted that the PNP is exploring authorized avenues to problem Chung’s appointment.

“You will note sooner or later what we take note of,” mentioned Golding. “Processes may be adopted in a way that achieves an anomalous and outrageous end result, and should you transfer again from the end result, you possibly can see that the method was flawed.”

The PNP’s considerations centre on public feedback that have been made by Chung concerning the Integrity Fee’s (IC) investigative report on Prime Minister Andrew Holness’ statutory declarations, and the multi-billion-dollar fraud probe relative to Shares and Securities Restricted (SSL).

Golding joined a number of PNP officers on the press convention in positing that Chung had “pre-judged” the IC matter relative to Holness.

THE IC has referred the end result of its prolonged probe into Holness’ statutory declarations for the previous few years to each the FID and Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) for additional investigation into points of the matter.
