    JPs Graduate from JTI to Serve in Lay Magistrates’ Court – Jamaica Information Service

    Sixteen Justices of the Peace (JPs) from Portland, Clarendon and St. Ann graduated from the Justice Coaching Institute (JTI), on Thursday (March 27).

    The JPs obtained specialised coaching between October and December 2024, to serve within the Lay Magistrates’ Courtroom.

    Coaching administered by retired Senior Parish Decide, Hon. Marjorie Moyston, was targeted on judicial rules and conduct, courtroom protocol and process, sentencing choices, roles and features of a lay Justice of the Peace, legal trial proceedings and guidelines of proof.

    Addressing the commencement ceremony at AC Resort by Marriott in Kingston, Minister of Justice, Hon. Delroy Chuck, charged the JPs to serve with integrity.

    “Furthermore, you have to serve with out bias. You could serve and be sure that folks have faith in you. I urge you to take action with humility. One of many best weaknesses of lay magistrates is the haughtiness with which they go round,” he mentioned.

    Minister of Justice, Hon. Delroy Chuck, addresses Thursday’s (March 27) Justice Coaching Institute (JTI) commencement ceremony at AC Resort by Marriott in Kingston. Sixteen JPs graduated from the JTI.

    Mr. Chuck reasoned that JPs have a job to play in selling peace throughout Jamaica.

    “You could assist in your associations to make sure that we’ve got peace, progress and prosperity. That’s the hallmark of a Jamaica that we have to be happy with,” he mentioned.

    In the meantime, Mr. Chuck counseled the newly appointed JPs for his or her diligence in finishing the coaching.

    He described their efforts as a solemn affirmation of their dedication to serving with integrity, equity and an unwavering dedication to justice.

    “You’ll be serving within the courts however, most significantly, you’re serving your group. As you serve your communities, consider the bigger curiosity – Jamaica. How can we make Jamaica the perfect place for peace, progress and prosperity and the place you and all Jamaicans can say Jamaica is a blessed land,” the Minister mentioned.

    In the course of the 2024/25 fiscal 12 months, 419 JPs have been uncovered to specialised coaching within the areas of Spirit Licensing Authority, Drug Trafficking Courtroom, Kids Courtroom, Refresher Coaching and Lay Magistrates’ Courtroom.

    The JTI is the coaching arm of the Ministry of Justice, charged with the duty to offer coaching and workers improvement actions of the best high quality to construct the capability inside the justice sector.
