Spanish City, St. Catherine: The communities of Ellerslie Pen and Tawes Meadows in Spanish City have been positioned beneath curfew following latest unrest within the space. The curfew, which started earlier immediately, will stay in impact till 6:00 pm on Friday, January 25.

The boundaries of the curfew have been clearly outlined:

    • North: From the roundabout, travelling alongside Spanish City Bypass about 600 metres to the intersection of Williams Road and Spanish City Bypass.
    • East: From the intersection of Williams Road and Spanish City Bypass, travelling about 800 metres, to the intersection of Williams Road and French Road.
    • South: From the intersection of French Road and Williams Road, travelling about 900 metres to the intersection of Oxford Street and Spanish City Bypass.
    • West: From the intersection of Oxford Street and Spanish City Bypass, travelling about 500 metres to the roundabout.

People inside the curfew zone are required to stay inside their premises except they’ve been granted authorization by the commanding officer.

The imposition of the curfew follows the latest killing of an alleged gang chief in St. Andrew, which sparked widespread unrest in Spanish City. A number of companies within the space remained closed on Thursday as a precautionary measure.

A heavy police presence stays within the space to keep up order and guarantee public security.
