    JFJ writes to DCS over detention of minors reportedly deemed uncontrollable

    Rights group Jamaicans for Justice (JFJ) has written to the Division of Correctional Companies (DCS) in relation to the detention of minors reportedly deemed uncontrollable.

    Based on Govt Director of the JFJ, Mikel Jackson the rights group was just lately knowledgeable by the DCS that kids had been detained and are within the care of the state on the premise of being uncontrollable.

    She mentioned JFJ is attempting to determine whether or not or not the kids had been detained previous to the repeal of the Little one Care Safety Act in 2023.

    Ms Jackson defined that previous to 2023 kids who had been deemed uncontrollable had been put within the care of the state.

    Nevertheless, the time period ‘uncontrollable’ was reportedly modified to kids with ‘behavioural challenges’ following discussions.

    She mentioned JFJ is anxious that kids are being introduced earlier than the courts beneath a repealed provision.

    Within the meantime, Ms Jackson mentioned the JFJ has additionally contacted the ministry of training in relation to kids who had been detained previous to the repeal of the Little one Care Safety Act in 2023.
