    Special Recognition of Senior Citizens During September – Jamaica Information Service

    State Minister within the Ministry of Labour and Social Safety, Dr. the Hon. Norman Dunn, has underscored the worth and resilience of the aged inhabitants.

    On the launch of Senior Residents Month 2025 (September), at The Jamaica Pegasus resort in New Kingston on August 29, Dr. Dunn described senior residents as “dwelling nationwide treasures, the steadfast pillars on whom Jamaica’s basis has been constructed and a guiding pressure that continues to form our future”.

    Representing Portfolio Minister, Hon. Pearnel Charles Jr., Dr. Dunn famous that their “flames of expertise, resilience and contribution” mirror the sacrifices made to construct the nation.

    “These women and men have toiled beneath the solar of our sugar fields, navigated the storms of financial hardship, and nurtured generations with love,” the State Minister continued.

The 2025 observance is being celebrated beneath the theme ‘Respect, Shield, Empower and Join’.

    Dr. Dunn added that Senior Residents Month gives a chance to reaffirm the rules of dignity, inclusion and respect which might be on the coronary heart of the Nationwide Coverage for Senior Residents.

    “Our seniors carry inside them the knowledge of the previous and the power of perseverance. Senior Residents Month 2025 gives us with that spark – a time to rejoice with our elders and to reaffirm the rules of dignity, inclusion and respect,” he mentioned.

    “Senior residents, we honour you this month, however we additionally honour you for a lifetime. We recognise your endurance, worth, and the knowledge you convey to our nation… .     He referred to as on households and communities throughout Jamaica to “uphold the dignity of our seniors, respect their experiences, and make sure that age is recognised as part of honour, not a limitation”.

    The 2025 observance is being celebrated beneath the theme ‘Respect, Shield, Empower and Join’.

    For her half, Board Chairman, Nationwide Council for Senior Residents, Julian McKoy Davis, described the theme as “well timed and apt”, noting that it displays Jamaica’s dedication to respecting the well-being of older Jamaicans.

    “Allow us to do our half in respecting our older individuals by defending them and empowering them with data and providers. And whereas doing so, we have to make sure that they continue to be linked and usually are not remoted and alone,” she urged.
