    Taxi Operator Held After Police Seize Six Firearms in St Andrew

    Kingston, Jamaica  — A taxi operator from Duhaney Park, St Andrew, stays in police custody following the seizure of six firearms, ammunition, and magazines throughout a late-night operation on Friday.

    In accordance with the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID), investigators intercepted a motorcar and carried out a search, which led to the invention of six prohibited firearms, 10 rounds of ammunition, and 6 magazines. The identification of the suspect is being withheld as investigations proceed.

    The FNID reported that this newest bust brings the full variety of prohibited weapons seized up to now three weeks to 276, a major spike as authorities ramp up efforts to curb gun violence and trafficking.

    Because the starting of 2025, the FNID has been chargeable for recovering 413 prohibited weapons, accounting for 58% of the 713 unlawful firearms seized throughout the island to date this 12 months.

    Police say investigations are ongoing and additional prices are anticipated.
