Kingston, Jamaica – Two drivers employed by the Jamaica City Transit Firm (JUTC) have been charged with a number of counts of straightforward larceny after allegedly siphoning gas from firm buses in separate incidents.

The accused males, 34-year-old Shavay “Shabb” Brown and 38-year-old Dushaine “Shaine” Brown, at the moment are on the middle of an ongoing investigation by the Counter-Terrorism and Organized Crime Investigations Department (CTOC), which is probing whether or not the gas thefts are linked to organized prison parts.

Investigators revealed that Shavay Brown, on a minimum of two events, diverted a JUTC bus to Chesterfield Drive in Kingston, the place he extracted 100 litres of gas. His unlawful actions got here to an finish on March 13 when police intercepted the bus after it left the extraction website. Following an interview on March 17, he was charged with two counts of straightforward larceny.

In the meantime, Dushaine Brown’s involvement allegedly spanned three separate incidents on February 17, 20, and 23. He reportedly diverted a JUTC bus to places in Spanish City, the place over 500 litres of gas have been stolen. He was arrested on Thursday, March 20, and charged with three counts of straightforward larceny.

Superintendent Victor Barrett of CTOC careworn the broader implications of gas theft on the financial system, noting that such crimes finally burden taxpayers.

“Gas theft on this scale represents a major loss to the financial system and finally impacts all tax-paying residents,” Barrett stated. “We’re dedicated to dismantling these prison networks and guaranteeing the safety of public assets. We’re actively pursuing all leads and anticipate additional arrests because the investigation progresses.”

Authorities are urging anybody with data associated to the case to contact CTOC at 876-967-1389, Crime Cease at 311, the Nationwide Intelligence Bureau at 811, or the closest police station.

The investigation stays ongoing, with regulation enforcement decided to root out any deeper connections between the suspects and bigger prison enterprises.
