Two-time World Below-20 100m champion Tina Clayton produced a shocking efficiency to win the ladies’s 100m closing on day two of the Jamaica Trials on the Nationwide Stadium on Friday evening.

Clayton powered to victory in a brand new private better of 10.81 seconds (+0.1 m/s), securing her first senior nationwide title and edging out three-time defending champion Shericka Jackson and dash legend Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce.

Jackson, who had been aiming for a fourth consecutive nationwide 100m crown, completed second in 10.88, whereas Fraser-Pryce, competing in her closing race on the Nationwide Stadium, took third place in 10.91.

Tina’s successful time improved on her semi-final mark of 10.93, set simply two hours earlier. That semi-final time had already bettered her earlier private better of 10.95, set when she received her second World Below-20 title in Cali, Colombia, in August 2022.

The outcome makes her the quickest Jamaican girl this season and strikes her to 3rd within the world rankings behind the USA’s Melissa Jefferson-Wood (10.73) and St Lucian Olympic champion Julien Alfred (10.75).

The race led to disappointment for Tina’s twin sister, Paris 2024 Olympic finalist Tia Clayton, who pulled up halfway by the ultimate. She had entered the ultimate with the quickest semi-final time of 10.86 seconds. Tia competed with a tape on her proper hamstring in each the semi-finals and the ultimate.
