    Students Invited to Participate in Maritime Authority’s Photo Competition – Jamaica Information Service

    The Maritime Authority of Jamaica (MAJ) has launched a Nationwide Photograph Competitors for high-school college students, inviting them to discover and doc Jamaica’s dynamic maritime panorama by capturing the nation’s maritime story by way of their lenses.

    The competitors, which is open to college students between the ages of 13 and 18, is a part of a broader public schooling marketing campaign by the MAJ to boost consciousness in regards to the nation’s maritime trade and the numerous alternatives it holds for future generations.

    Talking in an interview with JIS Information, MAJ Director Normal, Bertrand Smith, highlighted the significance of the initiative, noting that it aligns with the Authority’s mission to create better consciousness and appreciation for maritime affairs amongst Jamaicans, particularly the youth.

    “We consider that our younger persons are filled with creativity and potential. Via this picture competitors, we’re giving them a platform to precise their perspective whereas studying extra in regards to the essential work that occurs within the maritime trade, merely by way of the lens of their digicam,” he stated.

    Themed ‘Via Maritime Lens”, the competitors encourages college students to make use of pictures to seize distinctive views of Jamaica’s maritime trade comparable to a bustling port, a quiet shoreline, fishermen at work, marine wildlife, or some other component tied to the maritime sector.

    College students are inspired to get inventive and inform a visible story that connects with Jamaica’s maritime heritage and future.

    Mr. Smith famous that the MAJ is hopeful that the competitors will assist to foster maritime consciousness amongst younger Jamaicans and that it’s anticipated that submissions will spotlight Jamaica’s fragile marine ecosystems, together with coral reefs, mangroves, and coastal wildlife, bringing much-needed consideration to points like local weather change, air pollution, and coastal erosion.

    The competitors, which opened on July 25, will run till 3:00 p.m. on September 5, 2025.

    Submissions shall be evaluated by a panel of judges comprising professionals from each the pictures and maritime sectors.
