    Senior Citizens Feted on National Grandparents Day – Jamaica Information Service

    Senior residents from golf equipment all throughout Jamaica got here collectively for a day of enjoyable, meals and fellowship in celebration of Nationwide Grandparents Day.

    The third annual staging of the occasion was held on Sunday (September 21) on the Verandah at Juci Patties Empowerment Park in Clarendon.

    It was organised by Juci Patties in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour and Social Safety and the Nationwide Council for Senior Residents (NCSC).

    Throughout the day, the seniors have been handled to cocktails and a delicious meal and have been saved dancing to musical picks from genres spanning the Sixties, ‘70s and ‘80s.

    They instructed jokes and riddles and vied for prizes for having essentially the most grand and nice grandchildren. There have been particular presents for the oldest female and male grandparent.

    Senior residents benefit from the festivities on the Nationwide Grandparents Day celebrations held at The Verandah, Juci Empowerment Park in Clarendon, on Sunday (September 21).

    Chief Technical Director within the Ministry, Audrey Deer-Williams, stated Nationwide Grandparents Day is aimed toward selling energetic, wholesome ageing.

    “Yearly, after we host Senior Residents Month [in September], we stay that and make sure that they know that there’s a lot extra to contribute. They’ve already contributed however they’ll nonetheless contribute extra. They’re our historians and the keepers of our tradition, which is so essential,” she famous.

    Mrs. Deer-Williams stated the Authorities appreciates the nation’s seniors and continues to place measures in place to make sure that throughout their golden years, they’re handled with the dignity and respect they deserve.

    “We have now been doing this occasion for a minimum of 45 years, for the reason that inception of the NCSC within the ‘70s and from then, yearly, we’ve programmes to encourage our seniors. We all know once they become older, they’re lonely and that impacts them negatively. So, we’ve issues in place to maintain them comfortable. We’ll at all times proceed doing this,” she stated.

    Custos Rotolorum for Clarendon and director of Juici Patties, Edith Chin, instructed JIS Information that she is happy to host the occasion and have the younger staff cater to the wants of the senior residents and study from them.

    “When the Ministry of Labour and Social Safety and the Nationwide Council for Senior Residents (NCSC) offered the chance for us to collaborate, it was one thing that we welcomed. We’re very grateful for the chance… to cater to our seniors. They will come, loosen up, take pleasure in, socialise and have a grand time,” she added.

    The Custos expressed gratitude to the seniors who haven’t solely served the nation however have left a legacy for the following era to construct on.
