    Sandy Bay Primary Wins Rural Trees for Peace Competition – Jamaica Information Service

    Sandy Bay Major College in Hanover has emerged victorious as the agricultural champion within the Timber for Peace 2024-2025 competitors.

    The college accepted its trophy for an excellent peace backyard that built-in classes in peace with environmental stewardship, throughout an awards ceremony, held on the college grounds, on Thursday, June 12.

    The competitors was a collaboration between the Ministry of Training, Expertise, Youth and Info and the Violence Prevention Alliance. Greater than 120 primary, main, and secondary establishments throughout Jamaica registered for the competition.

    George Headley Major College in St. Andrew was awarded the city champion title.

    Avondale Preparatory and Kindergarten in Kingston secured the highest spot on the early-childhood stage, whereas New Forest Excessive in Manchester took dwelling the high-school-level winner title.

    Recognition went to Maryland Major and Toddler College in Hanover, which gained the Social Media Award, and Merlene Ottey Excessive College, recipient of the Resilience Award.

    Addressing the occasion, Regional Director within the Ministry of Training, Expertise, Youth and Info, Dr. Michelle Pinnock, pointed to the significance of nurturing each peace and nature, particularly towards the backdrop of societal challenges, equivalent to crime and violence.

This occasion marks the fruits of months of significant pupil engagement and peaceable environmental actions throughout a number of colleges islandwide,” Dr. Pinnock mentioned.

    Dr. Pinnock recommended Sandy Bay Major for successful the agricultural title. She indicated that the college’s peace backyard is a peaceful, quiet house for sitting, considering, reflecting, and peacefully resolving issues.

    “It’s a reminder that peace begins with me. College students, this backyard isn’t just for sitting and looking out fairly. It’s a image of non-violence, friendship and progress. It reminds us that peace begins with every one in all us,” she mentioned.

    Sandy Bay Major College Principal, Eugenie Simpson, mentioned the undertaking factors to schooling’s very important position in violence prevention, cooperation and battle decision.

    She recommended the scholars for demonstrating that younger individuals will be leaders in creating a greater society.

    “These crops, be they flowers, herbs or bushes remind us day by day that peace, like nature, have to be cultivated with care and intention,” Ms. Simpson mentioned.

    The Peace Backyard Competitors serves as a direct response to violence in colleges and addresses the important want for protected, restorative areas inside academic environments.

    By merging peace schooling with environmental care, the initiative goals to make sure that the values cultivated inside these inexperienced areas prolong into properties and communities and lay the inspiration for a extra passive society.
