    PM Reaffirms Pivotal Role of Private Sector in Regional Development – Jamaica Information Service

    Jamaica’s Prime Minister and Chair of CARICOM, Dr. the Most Hon. Andrew Holness, has reaffirmed the pivotal function of the non-public sector in driving regional improvement and financial transformation throughout the Caribbean.

    Addressing a CARICOM Enterprise Discussion board hosted by the CARICOM Non-public Sector Organisation (CPSO) and the Non-public Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ) at Sandals Montego Bay in St. James, on Tuesday (July 8), Dr. Holness identified that the area’s transformation “is just not doable with out the non-public sector”.

The discussion board fashioned a part of the forty ninth Common Assembly of the Convention of Heads of Authorities of CARICOM, being held on the Montego Bay Conference Centre from July 6 to eight.

    He cited the evolving notion of the enterprise neighborhood within the area, outlining that the historical past of the Caribbean has been ambivalent about its non-public sector.

    “[However], I’m joyful to say that, actually within the final decade, there was a better embrace of the non-public sector as companions,” Dr. Holness mentioned.

    “Our job is to facilitate and our job is to make the taking part in area degree and to offer you an excellent wicket on which you’ll go and make your individual,” he added.

    The Prime Minister described the present international panorama as unstable and fragmented, noting that there are a number of disruptions.

    “We’re working in a worldwide atmosphere marked by persistent volatility, rising protectionism of all types… disruptions of all types, together with climate-related disruptions, geopolitical tensions and financial fragmentation,” Dr. Holness outlined.

    As such, the Prime Minister urged leaders throughout sectors to behave with objective and collaboration.

    “We should act in a extra coordinated and collaborative method, drawing on the total capabilities of each private and non-private sectors. No authorities can reply alone and no enterprise can thrive in isolation. It is a shared agenda that calls for shared motion,” he famous.

    “The centre of that shared agenda is the CARICOM Single Market and Economic system, a very powerful framework for reaching regional collaboration and strategic cooperation,” the Prime Minister mentioned.

    Dr. Holness inspired the Caribbean neighborhood to recognise the energy of unity throughout the area.

    “Sure, individually our economies are small however, collectively, the sum of our elements is larger than the entire,” he identified.

    The Enterprise Discussion board was held as a part of the forty ninth Common Assembly of the Convention of Heads of Authorities of CARICOM, being held from July 6 to eight.
