In response, Ninjaman sought a brand new course. By 1997, he had embraced born-again Christianity and adopted the title Brother Desmond, specializing in gospel reggae. On the identical time, he publicly battled substance abuse, significantly crack cocaine, which he sought to beat by means of his newfound religion.

    Appearing Profession

Ninjaman’s charisma prolonged past music. He appeared in a number of Jamaican movies, together with the record-breaking “Third World Cop” (1999), “Impolite Boy: The Jamaican Don” (2003), and “Gangsta’s Paradise” (2004). His on-screen roles mirrored his larger-than-life character, additional solidifying his place in Jamaican popular culture.

    Authorized Troubles and Conviction

Ninjaman’s profession took a darkish flip in 2009 when he was arrested alongside his son, Janiel Ballentine, and a pal, Dennis Clayton, for the homicide of Ricardo Johnson, also called “Ricky Trooper.” The costs stemmed from a home dispute that escalated right into a deadly taking pictures on Marl Highway, Kingston.

After years of delays and rescheduled trials, Ninjaman was discovered responsible of homicide on November 20, 2017, and sentenced to life imprisonment on December 18, 2017. He should serve at the very least 25 years earlier than being eligible for parole. His co-accused obtained barely lighter sentences, with parole eligibility after 15 years.

The prosecution’s most important witness, now in witness safety, testified that Ninjaman was the one who fired the deadly pictures. Ninjaman has maintained his innocence and hinted at plans to attraction the conviction.

The singer and reality television star made the disclosure in a candid message to supporters following a recent hospitalization. Speaking directly to fans on social media, Ray J said medical professionals have warned him that his condition is life-threatening, adding that he has been told he may not live to see the year 2027.
