Man Shot Dead in Church! AK-47 Seized, Two Wanted Men Nabbed in Massive Kingston Crackdown Kingston, Jamaica – A Wednesday morning security sweep through sections of downtown Kingston turned deadly after a man was shot and killed inside a church, a high-powered AK-47 rifle was seized, and two fugitives were captured. The intense joint operation, led by over 100 police officers and nearly 30 soldiers, rocked Matthew’s Lane, Rose Lane, and West Street, sending shockwaves across the bustling downtown market district. The deceased has been identified as 24-year-old Michael Edwards, a resident of Alamanda Drive, New Haven, St Andrew. Reports are that Edwards, a mental health patient from Kingston Public Hospital (KPH), launched a violent rampage that ended in tragedy. 💥 Rampage Begins at KPH – Ends in Church Bloodshed Shortly after 5:45 a.m., Edwards reportedly attacked a nurse and a security guard at KPH and fled the facility. His escape led him to West Street, where he stormed the All Saints Anglican Church, still gripped by chaos. It was there that he allegedly attacked a police officer — part of the ongoing security operation — with a pair of scissors. Fearing for his life, the officer discharged a single shot from his service pistol. Edwards reportedly fled to the rear of the church, where he encountered members of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF). Police sources say the man again attacked, this time lunging at a soldier, who fired three rounds from his M4 rifle. Edwards collapsed with upper body injuries. Security personnel transported him back to KPH, where he was pronounced dead. A pair of scissors was reportedly recovered beside the deceased. 🔫 Gun Seized – Suspected Gang Ties The operation uncovered a deadly AK-47 rifle with an empty magazine, believed to be part of the Spanglers Gang’s arsenal, according to police intelligence. 👮 Two Wanted Men in Custody During the operation, officers detained several men for questioning. Among them, two individuals — Mark Anderson, 37, and Dean Lloyd, 25, both of West Street, Kingston — were found to have outstanding warrants for multiple breaches of the Road Traffic Act. Both were taken into custody. The joint police/military presence remained strong throughout the day as investigations continue. Police have vowed to tighten their grip on criminal elements fueling unrest in the city.
