SOUTH BRUNSWICK, N.J. — A South Brunswick police officer and a passing motorist pulled a driver away from a burning car early Thursday following a crash on Route 1.

Police credited officer Daniel Stoddard and the Good Samaritan, Haseeb Mehmood, of Outdated Bridge, with serving to get the injured driver safely away from his SUV.

The injured driver, a 50-year-old from Hamilton in Mercer County, had moments earlier been concerned in two-vehicle crash on Route 1 north within the space of Ridge Highway, authorities mentioned.

“The motive force had a critical leg damage and was unable to get any additional away from the fireplace,” South Brunswick police chief Raymond Hayducka mentioned. “I need to thank the citizen who stopped for getting concerned and making a distinction. His actions and Officer Daniel Stoddard ’s prevented additional damage to the motive force.”

The crash occurred round 3:50 a.m. on northbound Route 1 when the autos made contact, South Brunswick police mentioned. The affect compelled the SUV off the shoulder, and right into a tree. The opposite car got here to relaxation in the precise lane of the freeway.

Each drivers had been hospitalized with accidents. The opposite driver is a 40-year-old lady.

An area hearth division — Kingston Volunteer Fireplace Firm No. 1 — extinguished the SUV hearth.

Anybody with data on the crash is requested to name officer Austin Haren at 732-329-4646.
