    Mico launches $161 million fund to restore historic Buxton Building – Jamaica Inquirer

    The historic 135-year-old Buxton Constructing

    Mico College School has launched a US$1.1 million ($161 million) fundraising marketing campaign to revive the historic 135-year-old Buxton Constructing, a cornerstone of trainer schooling within the Caribbean.

    The initiative, led by the Mico Basis, was formally launched on Might 21, with assist from authorities officers, alumni, and company stakeholders.

    Talking on the launch, Mico President Dr Asburn Pinnock highlighted the constructing’s symbolic ties to the emancipation period and the legacy of the Woman Mico Belief, established in 1670 to teach freed slaves.

    Almost $20 million has already been pledged.

    Minister of Tradition, Gender, Leisure and Sport, Olivia “Babsy” Grange, who officiated the launch, praised the Buxton Constructing as a nationwide treasure. She emphasised its historic and cultural significance, describing the restoration as important to preserving Jamaica’s academic legacy and honouring those that laid the muse for generations of Caribbean educators.

    The funds will assist roof repairs, structural restoration, repainting in unique colors, and refurbishment of the bell tower and clock. Mico Basis Chairman Dr. Sylvester Tulloch emphasised the challenge as a dedication to preserving Jamaica’s academic and cultural heritage.
