New Delhi [India], September 15 (ANI): Ministry of Exterior Affairs Secretary (West) Sibi George on Monday met Leticia Reis de Carvalho, Secretary-Basic of the Worldwide Seabed Authority (ISA) and held talks on advancing cooperation in deep-sea mineral exploration, and strengthening multilateral engagement on ocean governance.
The delegations additionally held talks on sustainable use of marine sources.
In a publish on X, Official Spokesperson of the MEA, Ranshir Jaiswal stated, ‘Secretary (West) Sibi George obtained Leticia Reis de Carvalho, Secretary-Basic of the Worldwide Seabed Authority (ISA), at the moment. The Worldwide Seabed Authority (ISA) is an autonomous worldwide organisation established beneath the 1982 United Nations Conference on the Legislation of the Sea (UNCLOS) and the 1994 Settlement regarding the Implementation of Half XI of the United Nations Conference on the Legislation of the Sea (1994 Settlement).
ISA is the organisation via which States Events to UNCLOS organise and management all mineral-resources-related actions within the Space for the good thing about humankind as a complete. In so doing, ISA has the mandate to make sure the efficient safety of the marine surroundings from dangerous results which will come up from deep-seabed-related actions.
ISA, which has its headquarters in Kingston, Jamaica, got here into existence on November 16, 1994, upon the entry into power of UNCLOS.
