    Man Fatally Shot During Police Operation in St Elizabeth

    St Elizabeth, Jamaica – One man was shot and killed throughout a police operation in Cambridge, St Elizabeth on Tuesday morning.

    In response to experiences from the Jamaica Constabulary Power, the incident occurred round 5:15 a.m. throughout an intelligence-led operation focusing on George Griffiths, in any other case known as “Cookie.” Throughout the confrontation, Griffiths was reportedly shot and injured. He was transported to the Black River Hospital, the place he was later pronounced lifeless.

    Police say a Smith and Wesson firearm was recovered from the scene.

    Griffiths had beforehand been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition in April 2020 after a Taurus 9mm pistol was allegedly discovered beneath the driving force’s seat of a Toyota Noah he was working. He was convicted and later appealed the case.

    As well as, Griffiths was charged with assault occasioning bodily hurt in 2017.

    The incident has been reported to the Impartial Fee of Investigations (INDECOM), which is anticipated to launch a probe into the matter.
