    Major Gun and Ammunition Bust at Kingston Wharves

    Kingston, Jamaica — Authorities have made a big breakthrough within the combat towards gun smuggling with the invention of 66 firearms and over 4,500 rounds of ammunition at Kingston Wharves on Monday.

    The bust, which passed off on the Kingston Logistics Centre in Newport West, St. Andrew, is being hailed as a significant success within the ongoing efforts to fight unlawful arms trafficking in Jamaica.

    Investigators from the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID) and the Jamaica Customs Company intercepted the cargo, which had arrived from the US. The firearms seized included 50 handguns and 16 rifles, together with the substantial amount of ammunition, all hid inside two barrels.

    The invention was made at roughly 1:40 p.m. throughout routine checks of the incoming cargo. The police report {that a} Jamaican man, who additionally holds American citizenship, is believed to be behind the cargo. Together with one other particular person, he was arrested on Wednesday throughout a managed supply operation designed to additional the investigation.

    This newest seizure comes amid an escalating crackdown on gun smuggling operations supplying Jamaica’s felony networks. Legislation enforcement officers are intensifying their efforts to dismantle these illicit arms channels, which have contributed to a surge in violent crime within the nation.
