St Catherine, Jamaica — Michael Uylett, a licensed firearm holder and former president of the Sydenham Residents’ Affiliation, was acquitted of gun-related expenses on Wednesday within the Gun Courtroom.
Uylett had been charged with utilizing a firearm to commit an offence and assault occasioning bodily hurt following an alleged altercation in Sydenham, Spanish City, on November 23, 2023.
In keeping with the allegations, Uylett and the complainant have been concerned in a dispute over rubbish being burned in a discipline throughout the group. Throughout the altercation, Uylett was accused of pulling his licensed firearm and utilizing it to strike the complainant within the face.
Nevertheless, attorneys Donahue Martin and Carole Phillips, representing Uylett, made a no-case submission, arguing that the complainant failed to offer a transparent and enough description of the weapon beneath the Firearms Act.
Justice Vaughn Smith agreed with the submission and handed down a proper verdict of not responsible, liberating Uylett of all expenses.
