    Kelvin Sampson earns 800th win as No. 2 Houston bests Lehigh

    On a gap evening during which they unfurled a Closing 4 banner from the rafters of the Fertitta Heart, Kelvin Sampson earned his 800th profession win and second-ranked Houston dealt with visiting Lehigh 75-57 on Monday evening.

    Over a 36-year profession teaching at Montana Tech, Washington State, Oklahoma, Indiana and Houston, Sampson now has compiled a document of 800-354, together with final season’s run to the NCAA championship recreation.

    This win, Sampson’s three hundredth at Houston, featured a well-recognized script for a Sampson-coached squad, with Houston getting extra rebounds (43-30) and shot makes an attempt (61-51) whereas holding its opponent to worse than 40 % taking pictures from the sphere.

    Emanuel Sharp scored 24 factors whereas making 9 of 10 from the free-throw line, pacing the Cougars in each classes. He added seven rebounds. Freshman Chris Cenac Jr. chipped in 12 factors with 10 rebounds, and Joseph Tugler contributed 11. Milos Uzan added 12 factors, 5 assists and 5 rebounds.

    Lehigh captain Nasir Whitlock offered the primary offensive thrust for the Mountain Hawks, scoring 18 to associate with 9 rebounds. Hank Alvey had 10 factors and eight rebounds, Caleb Thomas scored 10 and Joshua Ingram scored 9 on 4-of-6 taking pictures.

    The Massive 12 favourite Cougars by no means noticed their second-half lead dip under 15 factors as they coasted to the end line.

    Houston sprinted out to a 12-0 lead over the sport’s first 5 minutes, spurred on by Cenac’s fast seven factors. The freshman completed the primary half with 12 factors, second-best amongst all scorers behind teammate Sharp’s 13.

    Sharp punctuated one other Cougars run to shut the primary half, drawing a foul on a 3-pointer with 2 seconds left. His three makes from the free-throw line completed a 12-2 run, giving Houston a 44-23 halftime lead.

    The Cougars shot 57 % and compelled 10 turnovers in constructing the 21-point benefit.

    Sharp’s fast lower to the lane netted him a bucket and free throw on the 8:35 mark of the second half, giving Houston its largest result in that time at 64-41. A Kingston Flemings pull-up jumper made the lead 24 just below two minutes later.
