The Jamaica Public Service (JPS) has restored electrical energy to 96% of its prospects island-wide.

The entity stated it achieved this milestone forward of its January 31 restoration goal.

Now three months into the restoration effort and with fewer than 28,000 prospects awaiting reconnection, JPS stated it’s within the ultimate stretch of restoration, generally known as the “final mile.”

In response to JPS, this section is probably the most advanced and resource-intensive because it includes re-designing and re-building severely-damaged infrastructure, navigating troublesome terrain in distant communities, and restoring provide to smaller clusters of shoppers.

It famous that the progress achieved since class 5 Hurricane Melissa made landfall on October 28 final yr, displays the dedication and technical experience of JPS crews supported by regional and worldwide line employees.

Whereas acknowledging the frustration of residents, who stay with out energy, JPS stated crews stay mobilised and are working assiduously to revive energy as safely and shortly as potential.

As restoration work continues, JPS stated power hubs have been established in affected communities to offer residents with entry to energy for charging units, web connectivity, and different important providers.
