    Jamaica’s first AI Lab to be established at Utech Ja – Jamaica Inquirer

    Utech Ja’s campus entrance in Kingston

    Jamaica’s first Synthetic Intelligence (AI) Lab shall be established on the College of Know-how, Jamaica (UTech Ja) in St Andrew, by September 1.

    In collaboration with the Amber Group, 100 information evaluation engineers shall be onboarded to create the lab and construct agentic AI – a category of AI which might autonomously make selections and take actions with out fixed human intervention. 

    Minister with out Portfolio within the Workplace of the Prime Minister with accountability for Effectivity, Innovation, and Digital Transformation, Senator Audrey Marks, underscored that AI performs a vital position in shaping Jamaica’s future, noting that it’s now not only a software of comfort.

    Addressing the Nationwide AI Lab Signing Ceremony, held just lately on the AC Resort by Marriott in Kingston Ambassador Marks mentioned AI is a strong driver of financial transformation, job creation, innovation and world competitiveness.

    “With the worldwide AI market anticipated to achieve almost US$3.6 trillion by 2034, Jamaica should place itself as a critical contender. We now have the expertise, infrastructure and entrepreneurial spirit,” she declared.

    Marks expressed gratitude to the Amber Group for its pioneering work and unwavering dedication to nationwide growth.

    “The investments in AI, the Web of Studying and digital transformation proceed to set the bar for innovation in Jamaica. With these collaborations, Jamaica is making ready our individuals for AI alternatives, which have the potential of remodeling lives and bringing monetary freedom and independence to many,” she mentioned.

    UTech Ja President, Dr Kevin Brown, reasoned that the establishment is well-positioned to function the host of the groundbreaking initiative, which is able to function a vibrant hub of creativity and a centre of excellence.

    “Our college gives the best surroundings to help this AI lab with the tutorial infrastructure, analysis capabilities and the institutional experience required to maintain its development. We’re dedicated to completely integrating the lab in our instructing and analysis programmes, guaranteeing our college students and school stay on the forefront of AI innovation and proceed to contribute meaningfully to nationwide and regional growth,” Dr Brown mentioned.

    He added that it’s going to carry collectively builders, researchers, entrepreneurs and college students who shall be empowered to work collectively to generate concepts, nurture expertise and resolve actual world challenges utilizing leading edge expertise.
