BELIZE CITY, Belize — A terrifying mid-air ordeal ended safely this morning after a hijacker was shot by a fellow passenger aboard a small home plane en route from Corozal to San Pedro.

The airplane, which carried 14 passengers, was seen flying erratically alongside the Belizean shoreline earlier than it touched down at Philip S. W. Goldson Worldwide Airport, the place emergency responders and legislation enforcement had assembled.

Commissioner of Police Chester Williams confirmed the hijacker, recognized as Akinyela Sawa Taylor, a United States citizen, was shot throughout a battle with a passenger. That passenger, who tried to subdue the attacker, sustained seen accidents, as seen in video footage from contained in the airplane.

Two individuals had been injured throughout the incident. All passengers had been evacuated safely and obtained medical consideration.

The motive behind the hijacking continues to be beneath investigation. Authorities haven’t indicated whether or not Taylor acted alone or what could have led to the try.

Regardless of the scare, worldwide flights at PGIA stay open, and police have launched a full investigation into the hijacking.

Officers praised the brave actions of these onboard and promised a evaluation of aviation safety measures in response to the incident. Additional updates are anticipated.
