    Health Minister urges manufacturers to reformulate non-alcoholic sweetened beverages following reported objection to taxing the product

    Producers who’ve taken concern with the Authorities’s plan to introduce a Particular Consumption Tax (SCT) on non-alcoholic sweetened drinks are being urged to reformulate the merchandise for shoppers through the use of much less sugar.

    Well being and Wellness Minister, Dr. Christopher Tufton, gave the encouragement whereas talking on the official opening of the Oxford Group Well being Centre in St. Mary, yesterday.

    It follows reviews that the Chairman of a serious manufacturing firm closely criticised the proposal.

    Dr. Tufton stated producers should perceive the challenges that the well being sector faces as a result of consumption of sugary drinks.

    The SCT on sugary drinks is amongst a number of measures proposed by the Authorities on Thursday to handle the financial fallout from Class 5 Hurricane Melissa, which made landfall final October.

    Finance Minister Fayval Williams famous that the tax on sweetened drinks ought to present about $10 billion.
