HANOVER, Jamaica — The Hanover Municipal Company says it can value nearly $1 billion to restore harm attributable to Hurricane Melissa, worsening an already strained monetary scenario.

The company wants $814.8 million to repair broken infrastructure and properties throughout the parish. The storm struck on October 28 and severely impacted about 13 main income sources, together with constructing charges, market charges, promoting charges, and burials.

Mayor Sheridan Samuels stated help is being sought from the Ministry of Native Authorities, the CHASE Fund, the Jamaica Social Funding Fund (JSIF), and potential worldwide businesses.

The company has additionally been scuffling with bills for the reason that public sector wage reclassification took impact in 2022.

With mounting prices and decreased revenue, Hanover’s restoration stays difficult because the parish works to return to normalcy.
