MONTEGO BAY, St James — A 42-year-old man with a Florida tackle was arrested final Friday at Sangster Worldwide Airport after authorities allegedly found a cache of firearms and ammunition in his baggage.
The person, reportedly touring on a Jamaican passport, is alleged to have been carrying two dozen firearms, some dismantled, together with 200 rounds of ammunition. His identification has not been disclosed as he has not but been formally charged.
In response to a police report, the invention was made round 3 p.m. throughout routine baggage inspections within the Customs Corridor after the person disembarked a Southwest Airways flight from Florida.
A firearm wrapped in foil was reportedly uncovered through the preliminary search. This prompted the involvement of the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division, whose detailed inspection of the passenger’s baggage revealed extra weapons and ammunition.
The contents of the bags included:
- A black suitcase labeled “Juicy Couture,” which contained socks crammed with .357 Magnum rounds, black denims concealing a Glock journal, and different firearm parts comparable to a DVR with gun elements and steel objects resembling converter chips.
- A second suitcase marked “Highland Tactical,” containing dismantled firearms, pistol barrels, firearm slides, ammunition trays, and a number of magazines.
Moreover, two black Visa debit playing cards and three cell phones have been discovered within the suspect’s possession.
A former police officer described the seizure as extremely refined, suggesting the firearms have been configured for people with superior information of weaponry.
“This isn’t your common gun bust,” stated the ex-cop. “The extent of sophistication suggests these weapons have been destined for expert handlers, presumably within the felony underworld. It’s alarming, and authorities should act rapidly to uncover the community behind this operation.”
