CHARDON, Ohio — A Hiram man is accused of stealing an ambulance after leaving the emergency room at College Hospitals Geauga Medical Middle late Tuesday evening, based on the Geauga County Sheriff’s Workplace.
Chardon police first responded round 11 p.m. to a house within the 100 block of Fairways Drive for a report of a drunk man who had punched a gap in a wall, Sheriff Scott Hildenbrand mentioned. Officers discovered the 66-year-old suspect, who was taken to the hospital for analysis as a result of he was intoxicated.
“Whereas he was there he simply determined he needed to depart,” Hildenbrand mentioned.
The person walked out of the emergency division, received right into a Group Care Ambulance parked outdoors and drove away, Hildenbrand mentioned.
A sheriff’s deputy later noticed the ambulance close to the intersection of Ohio 44 and Ohio 87 and stopped it. Hildenbrand mentioned man was cooperative and received out of the car with out incident.
The suspect is charged in Chardon Municipal Court docket with obstructing official enterprise, disrupting public service, and grand theft of a motorcar — all felony offenses.
The sheriff’s workplace mentioned no accidents have been reported.
