St John’s [Antigua], August 12 (ANI): Former West Indies (WI) captain Clive Lloyd expressed his apprehensions a few attainable, much-debated two-tier system for the ICC World Check Championship (WTC), saying that the crew is ‘simply two years out of being in that group for 100 years’.

If the two-tier WTC system is available in place in future, it’s a risk that WI cricket directors are cautious of and are hoping to have a say in it, as Cricket West Indies (CWI) chief government Chris Dehring put it.

‘All of that now we have a task to play in, now we have a seat on the desk on the ICC,’ Dehring stated through the presser as quoted by ESPNCricinfo, organised after CWI’s emergency assembly involving the crew’s legends through the years. This assembly happened within the aftermath of WI being skittled out for 27 runs, the second-lowest Check complete ever, through the third Check towards Australia final month.

‘We now have to only keep abreast as shut as attainable to all of the adjustments that would occur, place ourselves, hedging our bets so to talk, to ensure we’re in there as West Indies cricket, irrespective of which method the wind blows and attempt to reap the benefits of it,’ he added.

Final month, the Worldwide Cricket Council (ICC) fashioned a working group, led by former New Zealand cricketer Roger Twose, to look into, amongst many issues, enhancing the WTC forward of the 2025-27 cycle. A two-tier system for a similar was mentioned considerably through the physique’s annual convention in July. Twose, the New Zealand Cricket (NZC) consultant on the ICC Board, is anticipated to make suggestions to the board.

The talk a few two-tier WTC has been round even earlier than the WTC was a correct league-based event with a title conflict. This subject has confirmed to be a divisive one amongst Full Members of the ICC who benefit from the privilege of enjoying Assessments.

In all WTC campaigns to date, WI completed at eighth out of 9 groups, having notched simply 10 wins throughout these three editions in 39 Assessments, dropping 23 and drawing six.

Llyod, invited to the assembly together with the legends from yesteryears like Brian Lara, Viv Richards and others, pointed his finger on the share of ICC cash that member boards are given. He stated that WI deserves consideration financially regardless of their falling requirements through the years, given their standing as a prime crew from the Nineteen Seventies to the Eighties and a particularly aggressive unit within the Nineties and 2000s.

‘We now have to have a look at what is occurring on the ICC with the shareout of the cash. India, Australia and England get 180 million and West Indies will get 80 million like Bangladesh and Afghanistan, and we’re simply two years out of being in that group for 100 years,’ Lloyd stated.

‘To me, it’s not proper. We now have to face up. We now have to go to the ICC and ask for particular dispensation. As a result of once we had been within the ascendancy, and we had been enjoying so effectively, everybody wished to play with us.’

‘We had been enjoying Australia fairly often, with England fairly often, and once we went to Pakistan or India, getting tens of millions of individuals [to the grounds]. We have to get a greater share of the pie, as a result of we had been the money cows for a very long time. And we have to get a few of that. I’m hoping the board follows up on that suggestion the place we might be adequately given the cash that’s wanted,’ he concluded. (ANI)
