One of many RAF Purple Arrows skilled a fowl strike on the way in which to a flypast on Friday.
The aerobatic show group had been headed to the Nationwide Memorial Arboretum, close to Lichfield, Staffordshire, to commemorate the eightieth anniversary of VJ Day, when the strike occurred.
In a social media put up the RAF confirmed the pilot “returned safely to Bournemouth” and the deliberate flypast went forward as an eight plane formation.
Hours later, all 9 jets had been acting at Eastbourne Worldwide Airshow, East Sussex.
Flight Lieutenant George Hobday, pilot of Purple 7, described flying for the veterans on VJ Day as “humbling” and “an absolute honour”.
He stated: “It is at all times extraordinary. There’s loads of planning that goes into these items. We’re at all times centered on placing the very best flypast.
“It is at all times actually particular to be part of.”
VJ Day, or Victory over Japan Day, is marked annually on 15 August – the date in 1945 when Japan surrendered to the Allied forces and World Conflict Two ended.
The Purple Arrows have exhibited a diamond 9 form and a mixture of shut formations, flypasts and precision flying since 1965.
