    Sentencing of former MP Jolyan Silvera to be livestreamed – Justice Sykes

    Chief Justice Bryan Sykes says the sentencing of former Member of Parliament Jolyan Silvera can be livestreamed.

    The Chief Justice made the disclosure throughout an engagement with the media this morning.

    Mr. Silvera was arrested and charged with the 2023 homicide of his spouse, Melissa.

    Earlier this month, he pleaded responsible to manslaughter, which was accepted by the courtroom.

    He’s to be sentenced subsequent Friday, March 6.

    Mr. Silvera’s trial was held in-camera, which means members of the general public, together with the media, had been barred from observing the proceedings.

    Throughout this morning’s engagement, the Chief Justice was requested what can be obtained for the sentencing.

    In response, Justice Sykes stated the method has handed for the general public to be barred and that the sentencing can be made public.
