The Unbiased Fee of Investigations (INDECOM) has written to the Excessive Command of the Jamaica Constabulary Pressure, calling for an pressing assembly to debate probes into police concerned shootings with out notification to INDECOM.

INDECOM says it notes with critical concern, a number of media stories indicating that the constabulary is pursuing energetic investigations into allegations of police-involved shootings, involving two cops, with none notification to the Fee, formal or in any other case.

The Fee says the JCF is certain by regulation, to inform it forthwith the place an incident includes conduct by its members that resulted in demise of or damage to any individual.

In keeping with INDECOM, the act expressly mandates quick reporting of such incidents to the fee.

INDECOM desires to satisfy with the excessive command to debate the difficulty and guarantee strict adherence to statutory necessities in present and future incidents, including that it’s to be acknowledged that compliance with these reporting obligations is just not discretionary.

The Fee states that the failure, by the JCF, to refer these issues to INDECOM undermines the statutory oversight framework established by Jamaica’s parliament and compromises the transparency and independence which are supposed in relation to investigations of alleged police-involved incidents.
