“Residing right here appears like jail with out bars”

That’s how some residents in communities that are closely policed say they really feel.

The disclosure was made throughout the launch of the findings of a survey performed by the MICO Basis and Rights Group Jamaicans for Justice.

The analysis is titled Residents’ Rights, Roles, Obligations and Practices Survey 2025.

Talking at this morning’s launch of the findings, Deputy Director for the Institute of Technological and Instructional Analysis on the Mico College Sandra-Grey Alvaranga mentioned residents in communities closely policed say freedom of speech can also be constrained.

She mentioned the residents revealed that it was simpler to belief native officers versus officers from different communities.

The analysis was carried out beneath JFJ’s EU-funded 3-year grant titled ‘Promotion and Safety of Human Rights in Jamaica via Schooling, Advocacy, and Authorized Assist Providers’.

The report examines public consciousness, perceptions, and experiences referring to residents’ rights and duties, together with interactions with public establishments and regulation enforcement, in addition to problems with accountability, civic participation, home violence and entry to justice.
