MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica — A whole bunch of craft distributors in Montego Bay are set to learn from a multimillion-dollar debt reduction measure permitted by the St James Municipal Company.

The choice will see roughly $4.5 million — half of the $9.3 million owed in excellent hire — written off for 410 craft merchants. The reduction applies particularly to arrears collected throughout October and November 2025.

Mayor of Montego Bay, Councillor Richard Vernon, confirmed that the transfer adopted appeals from distributors who reported vital monetary hardship.

In accordance with the mayor, craft market operators skilled enterprise losses totaling $22 million throughout 2025, prompting the municipality to intervene with the partial waiver.

The company says the measure is meant to supply help to merchants as they work towards stabilizing their operations.
