The St. James Municipal Company has dedicated to waiving 50% of the $9.3 million in excellent debt owed by craft distributors in Montego bay.

In response to Montego Bay Mayor, Richard Vernon, the initiative is geared toward supporting restoration efforts following hurricane Melissa, attracting extra guests and increasing enterprise alternatives because the tourism sector rebounds.

He stated the choice adopted an attraction from craft distributors.

The waiver, which covers hire arrears for October and November, quantities to roughly $4.5 million and can profit 410 craft merchants in Montego Bay.

The merchants recorded roughly $22 million in enterprise losses final 12 months as a consequence of a number of challenges, together with the devastating affect of hurricane Melissa.

In the meantime, Mayor Vernon urged enterprise homeowners to adapt to prevailing challenges and reposition themselves to harness the alternatives introduced by a revitalised tourism business.

He was talking throughout the municipal company’s month-to-month assembly final Thursday.
