    PM Holness says Accompong maroons are a part of Jamaican sovereignty

    Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness has burdened that the Accompong maroons of St. Elizabeth are part of the Jamaican sovereignty.

    The difficulty of sovereignty has been a contentious one between the federal government and the maroons for a while, with claims and counter claims about who has authority over maroon lands and governance.

    Yesterday, the Accompong maroons celebrated the treaty with the British that established the group, guaranteeing its freedom and autonomy.

    Talking on the occasion Dr. Holness identified that, as prime minister, he’s obligated to the maroons, being their steward of assets.

    Dr. Holness mentioned his job is to not be an over lord, however to make sure that the totally different ranges of presidency work.

    He likened the maroon management to a group based mostly cultural organisation.
