    Jamaican-Born Woman Gets Life Without Parole for Fatal Stabbing in Florida

    FLORIDA, USA — A 31-year-old Jamaican-born girl, Sakiyna Thompson, has been sentenced to life in jail with out the opportunity of parole after a jury discovered her responsible of first-degree homicide within the 2022 killing of 23-year-old Kayla Hodgson in Tamarac, Florida.

    The lethal stabbing occurred in July 2022, and prosecutors argued that Thompson traveled from New York to Florida with the intent to confront Hodgson, whom she believed was romantically concerned together with her ex-boyfriend. In response to the state, Thompson disguised herself, went to the sufferer’s residence within the early morning hours, and was seen leaving with a weapon shortly after the assault.

    Thompson took the stand in her personal protection, admitting she stabbed Hodgson however claiming self-defense, telling jurors that Hodgson attacked her and reduce her with a bit of glass. She additionally revealed she was two months pregnant on the time and acted to guard herself.

    Jurors in the end dismissed her account, ruling that the killing was premeditated.

    The presiding decide described the homicide as “heinous,” whereas Hodgson’s household delivered emotional statements highlighting the brutality of the assault and the finality of the sentence.

    Thompson will spend the remainder of her life behind bars.
