    JPS Braces for Impact as Jamaica Prepares for Major Hurricane

    KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Jamaica Public Service Firm (JPS) says the nationwide electrical energy grid might face vital challenges if Tropical Storm Melissa strengthens and makes landfall as a serious hurricane early subsequent week.

    In response to the Meteorological Service of Jamaica, Melissa is forecast to achieve the island by Tuesday, doubtlessly as a Class 4 or 5 hurricane, bringing harmful winds and heavy rainfall.

    In preparation for doable injury to the facility community, JPS has stepped up readiness efforts, with greater than 50 further line employees arriving on the island on Friday to bolster the corporate’s response workforce. They are going to be a part of utility crews already in Jamaica from St. Vincent, as JPS intensifies emergency operations and pre-storm assessments.

    The corporate says its groups are on excessive alert and are working to make sure a speedy response to any service disruptions that will happen as soon as the system impacts the island.
