    Port Royal Residents Refuse Evacuation as Tropical Storm Melissa Approaches

    PORT ROYAL, Jamaica — Residents of the historic seaside city of Port Royal have indicated they won’t adjust to any evacuation orders as Tropical Storm Melissa threatens Jamaica. Regardless of appeals from the Ministry of Native Authorities, residents stay steadfast of their resolution to remain of their houses, citing previous detrimental experiences at official shelters throughout Hurricane Ivan in 2004.

    Group members expressed considerations about shelter security, safety, and circumstances, whereas noting that Port Royal has traditionally withstood extreme climate with out main flooding or injury. Residents are monitoring the storm carefully and making preparations to safe property and fishing tools.

    Native authorities, together with the Member of Parliament for Kingston East and Port Royal, are coordinating with the federal government to make sure correct shelter preparations are in place for individuals who might select to evacuate, though some stay sceptical in regards to the adequacy of the services
