    Tom Tavares-Finson Returned as Senate President at Parliament Opening

    KINGSTON, Jamaica — King’s Counsel Tom Tavares-Finson has been re-appointed as President of the Senate, retaining the highest submit through the ceremonial opening of Parliament on Thursday.

    Tavares-Finson was formally nominated by Senator Kamina Johnson Smith of the governing Jamaica Labour Social gathering (JLP), with the movement seconded by Senator Donna Scott-Mottley from the Opposition Individuals’s Nationwide Social gathering (PNP).

    Following the bipartisan nod, Tavares-Finson took the oath of allegiance to renew his duties as presiding officer of the Higher Home.

    New Deputy Named

    Additionally introduced throughout Thursday’s proceedings was the appointment of Senator Charles Sinclair as Deputy President of the Senate, moving into the position to help the chamber’s management as the brand new legislative 12 months will get underway
