Jamaica – Issues bought heated in the course of the nationwide debates as JLP’s Matthew Samuda got here out swinging in opposition to the Opposition PNP, accusing them of faking concern for the atmosphere.

Samuda’s response adopted an announcement from PNP debater Sophia Frazer-Binns, who claimed a future PNP authorities would make the Nationwide Surroundings and Planning Company (NEPA) an unbiased regulator.

However Samuda wasn’t shopping for it. He pointed to what he described because the PNP’s poor environmental document, together with previous plans to construct a logistics hub on the protected Goat Islands, a transfer that sparked main backlash from conservationists.

“They’ve by no means demonstrated environmental management,” Samuda stated bluntly, warning voters to not fall for the inexperienced speak on stage.

The Goat Islands controversy, which erupted below a earlier PNP administration, concerned a proposed industrial improvement in a essential wildlife space. Although the plan was ultimately scrapped, it left a long-lasting stain on the PNP’s environmental credibility.

Because the #JaVotes2025 race heats up, each events at the moment are attempting to say the excessive floor on local weather resilience, inexperienced coverage, and pure useful resource safety.

However Samuda insists the JLP has been delivering the place it issues — in actual coverage and motion — whereas the PNP is simply now scrambling to repair a picture tarnished by years of environmental neglect.
