    NCRA Records Seven Per Cent Year-on-Year Increase in Site Inspections – Jamaica Information Service

    In 2024, the Nationwide Compliance and Regulatory Authority (NCRA) carried out 4,870 website inspections, up from 4,550 in 2023.

    This represents a seven per cent enhance and is attributed to intensified monitoring of merchandise at every website inspected.

    These particulars are contained within the Financial and Social Survey Jamaica (ESSJ) 2024, an annual publication of the Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ).

    The survey knowledgeable that consignments have been inspected each at ports of entry and on the premises of importers.

    “Merchandise that didn’t conform to the Requirements Act, 1968 have been detained. There have been 1,421 consignments inspected on the ports of entry and premises of importers/distributors, two of those consignments [comprising 89,966 products] have been detained for breaches of obligatory customary specs,” the doc acknowledged.

    “This represents a 99.9 per cent conformance degree in contrast with 99.8 per cent in 2023 when 1,128 consignments have been inspected and an identical two have been detained,” it added.

    Within the home market, 323,958 merchandise have been inspected, ensuing within the withdrawal of 24,842 models from sale on account of numerous labelling breaches.

    Moreover, 19,532 models of merchandise have been detained within the home market on account of breaches of obligatory customary specs. This introduced the whole variety of non-conforming merchandise recognized within the home market to 44,374 models.

    Comparatively, in 2023, of the 162,775 models of merchandise inspected, 50,361 have been withdrawn from sale on account of comparable violations.

    The NCRA facilitates the enforcement of requirements by monitoring entities to make sure compliance with established specs.

    That is achieved by way of website inspections, the removing of non-conforming items, and the registration of importers and producers of specified merchandise.
