Al Jazeera Media Network is mourning and condemning the Sunday-night killing of 4 of its journalists by an Israeli strike in Gaza Metropolis.
The community mentioned correspondents Anas Al-Sharif and Mohammed Qraiqea, together with photographers Ibrahim Al Thaher and Mohamed Nofal, died within the strike, which occurred whereas they had been stationed reverse the Al-Shifa Medical Complicated in Gaza.
CNN reported that the Israeli military confirmed the strike, which they claimed was geared toward taking out Al-Sharif, who they alleged had a “army affiliation to Hamas,” courtesy of paperwork they present in Gaza.
Nonetheless, Al Jazeera denied these claims and, in an announcement, mentioned it condemned the “heinous crimes and the continuing makes an attempt by Israeli authorities to silence the reality.” The media community added that it was calling on “ the worldwide group and all related organizations to take decisive measures to halt this ongoing genocide and finish the deliberate focusing on of journalists.”
Committee to Defend Journalists regional director Sara Qudah also condemned the killings of the Al Jazeera journalists, saying, “Israel worn out a whole information crew. It has made no claims that any of the opposite journalists had been terrorists. That’s homicide. Plain and easy.”
This is not the first time Al Jazeera journalists have died as a result of Israeli motion whereas on responsibility in Gaza. In August 2024, Al Jazeera Arabic correspondent Ismail Al-Ghoul and his cameraman, Rami Al-Rifi, had been killed throughout an Israeli air assault on Gaza Metropolis.
Al Jazeera Media Community issued an announcement in response to the killing of its journalists, saying it was a “focused assassination” by Israeli forces and pledging to “pursue all authorized actions to prosecute the perpetrators of those crimes.”
CPJ famous that to this point, greater than 190 journalists and media staff have been killed because the battle between Israel and Hamas started in 2023.
Additionally killed within the Sunday-night strike was Mohammad al-Khaldi, a neighborhood freelance reporter.
