    Two Charged After Ammunition Seized At Sangster International Airport

    Montego Bay, St. James – Detectives assigned to the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID) have arrested and charged two people in reference to the seizure of ammunition on the Sangster Worldwide Airport in Montego Bay on Friday, August 1.

    Charged with Unauthorized Possession of Ammunition are:

    • Brian Witter, 29, a safety guard from Nain district, St. Elizabeth
    • Vancia Peart, 46, of Pepper district, St. Elizabeth and the USA of America

    In accordance with police studies, round 11:30 a.m., Peart was making ready to board a flight to the U.S. when she was subjected to routine safety screening. In the course of the course of, seven rounds of ammunition had been found in her checked baggage.

    Subsequent investigations by FNID detectives led to the arrest of Brian Witter. Each suspects had been taken into custody and charged on Sunday, August 3.

    Thus far in 2025, 139 rounds of ammunition and 4 firearms have been seized at Sangster Worldwide Airport, highlighting ongoing efforts to stem the motion of unlawful weapons via Jamaica’s ports.

    Appearing Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Patrae Rowe, Director of FNID, issued a robust warning:

    “Our airports are usually not simply factors of journey; they’re crucial strains of nationwide defence. The motion of weapons poses a major risk to public security. We proceed to strengthen safety at our borders and urge all individuals to adjust to the legal guidelines of the land. Those that try to visitors firearms or ammunition will probably be held accountable.”

    Neither Witter nor Peart had been licensed or approved to be in possession of ammunition.
