WINGATE, N.C. — City leaders in Wingate voted to dissolve the city’s police division, shifting regulation enforcement obligations to the Union County Sheriff’s Workplace, Spectrum News 1 reported.
The Wingate City Council accredited the transfer in a 4-1 vote on July 15, citing long-term price financial savings. The choice will have an effect on the small division serving the group of roughly 4,000 residents, in response to the 2020 U.S. Census.
City officers mentioned the transition will enable Union County deputies to imagine public security duties inside city limits.
In an announcement posted to Fb, the Wingate Police Division expressed disappointment with the end result, saying officers have been “devastated” by the choice.
“We wish to share how a lot we love and assist our group,” the submit mentioned. “Our officers couldn’t ask for higher residents.”
The timeline for the transition to the sheriff’s workplace has not but been introduced.
