    Public Trust Growing in Domestic Violence Intervention Centres – Jamaica Information Service

    There’s rising public belief within the Home Violence Intervention Centres which are situated on police compounds in eight parishes throughout the island.

    This was said by Nationwide Home Violence Intervention Liaison Officer for the Jamaica Constabulary Pressure (JCF), Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Jacqueline Dillon, in an interview with JIS Information.

    The nation at the moment has 10 centres working on police compounds in Kingston at 115 Outdated Hope Highway (Matilda’s Nook Police Station) and Fixed Spring Police Station; Clarendon, Hayes Police Station; St. Mary, Gayle Police Station; St. Ann, Alexandria Police Station; St. Thomas, Morant Bay and Yallahs Police Stations; Westmoreland, Negril Police Station; St. Elizabeth, Santa Cruz Police Station; and St. Catherine, Portmore Police Station.

    These centres are managed by the Central Unit, situated at 2 Oxford Highway in Kingston.

    In accordance with DSP Dillon, these centres function a major avenue for people searching for assist and reporting instances of abuse.

    The centres present caring interventions, assist and safeguards for victims searching for assist.

    “Many of the figures that we accumulate come from the home violence intervention centres. The others come from the Divisions the place no centre is, or the parishes the place no centre is,” she stated.

    She defined that for some Divisions they’ve recorded declining numbers of reported incidents.

    “For the Divisions the place there are rising numbers, it implies that extra persons are trusting us to behave on their behalf or reply to their issues. In Divisions the place there are much less numbers, it implies that the message that now we have been sending out to individuals about home violence and prevention, they’re listening to the message,” DSP Dillon stated.

    The JCF’s Home Violence Intervention Unit carried out a month-long Cross-Nation Tour in February as a part of its ongoing effort to fight home violence and lift consciousness throughout communities.
