    845 Schools Reopen as Jamaica Recovers from Hurricane Melissa

    KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Ministry of Training says 845 faculties have reopened as of November 26, 2025, following Hurricane Melissa.

    In Area 4 (Westmoreland, St James, Hanover), 24 of 25 excessive faculties are actually open for Grades 11–13, permitting exam-level college students to return to face-to-face courses.

    The ministry has 48 contractors engaged on repairs, prioritising faculties with dormitories, together with Munro Faculty, Hampton Faculty, and St Elizabeth Technical Excessive Faculty.

    UNICEF has supplied short-term tents to help faculties whereas everlasting repairs proceed, with the primary put in at Darliston Main. Minister Dana Morris Dixon mentioned all rebuilding will observe enhanced, climate-resilient requirements
